About.
why this exists
[placeholder — the user will write this section. It should cover why Open the Pod exists, what problem it solves for the author, and set expectations for how it will be developed going forward: slowly, deliberately, one small improvement at a time, with no promises and no roadmap commitments.]
[a second paragraph here about the development approach — that this is a side project built for love of movies and podcasts, that features land when they land, and that the site should stay small and focused.]
how podcasts are chosen
Open the Pod is not trying to index every movie podcast on the internet. It's trying to be a focused, well-curated service for people who want to know which of a hand-picked set of great podcasts have covered a given movie.
The baseline is simple: it starts with the podcasts I personally listen to. That's the anchor. New additions come from user requests, weighed against these criteria:
- Primarily about movies or series — not a general-interest show that occasionally mentions a film
- A recurring pattern of covering specific titles — not just occasional one-offs
- Movie title present in the episode title (otherwise I can't match it)
- Substantive discussion — longer than quick takes or news roundups
- Established enough to be findable in Apple Podcasts or Spotify
Even when a podcast meets the criteria, there's a layer of editorial judgment on top. If most episodes aren't actually reviews, if the hosting is bad, if the filter patterns become a maintenance nightmare — I may still pass. The goal is a small, excellent library, not a comprehensive one.
If a podcast you love isn't here, use the "request a podcast" link on the homepage. Requests are read, considered, and sometimes added.
